It can sit on a shelf, and is designed not to topple over.I can hang on the shelf and remain easy to read - that is, doesn't tilt down.And it comes with little suction cups so it can hook on the wall of the refrigerator (which is how I have it) and be out of the way.It also seems to be quite accurate. I especially like that you don't have to actually read the numbers, it has a section of the 'appropriate' temperature which is in blue, so I can just see whether my fridge is all right.
